Christmas dinner was very low key. Nothing was open in town – no bars, restaurants or markets. We had just about resigned ourselves to granola bars and almonds for dinner when we found one lone Chinese restaurant open. Just as we were placing an order, the local police came by. He literally gave a speech that started with, ¨I am the law,¨ and ordered the place to shut down on the spot. Apparently, no businesses in Punta Gorda were allowed to operate because of the holiday. Luckily, after ¨The Law¨ left, Francesco was able to work out getting our order to go and we literally had under the table Chinese food for Christmas dinner. It was delicious, especially when washed down with a few Belikin beers, also purchased on the “black market”!
Makeshift bottle opener:
Of course I cleaned my plate. Initially I think Francesco was a bit shocked by the amount of food I consume, but I think he’s slowly becoming used to it! In my defense though, my meal was mostly vegetables!
