Friday morning, I grabbed some fruit at the local market and we caught the first boat out of town, which took us on a windy 75 minute ride to Puerto Barrios, Guatemala.
When we got to Guatemala, there were fireworks were for sale near the bus!
On board the bus, I admired the view through my window:
A common site in Central America, burning trash in the streets:
The bus ride was another interesting one, we even had a feathered passenger along!
At the border in Chiquimula, we were unloaded to pay the Guatemala exit tax and the Honduran entry tax (about $3 each). Given that I’ll be entering and exiting Mexico twice, entering and exiting Belize twice, entering and exiting Guatemala twice, and entering and exiting Honduras, these small fees of $3-25 are adding up quickly! Definitely something to keep in mind if you’re traveling on a budget.
After paying our fees, we were picked up by another shuttle to take us to Copan Ruinas, Honduras. We checked into ViaVia hostel and collapsed into bed after another long day of traveling.
