Apple mixture ingredients:
- 8 apples, peeled and cored (I used equal parts Granny Smith and Fuji)
- ⅓ cup raw or granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- ½ teaspoon cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon nutmeg
- Zest and juice of 1 small lemon
- 1 pinch of kosher salt
Apple crisp oat topping ingredients:
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- ½ cup raw or granulated sugar
- ¼ cup old-fashioned or whole oats
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- ½ teaspoon cinnamon
- Pinch of kosher salt
- 1 egg
- 6 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- Vanilla ice cream, for serving
Special equipment:
Make the apple crisp filling:
- Cut the apples into ¼-inch slices. Toss with the sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon and salt and place in the crockpot.
Make the apple crisp oat topping:
- Combine the flour, sugar, oats, baking powder, cinnamon and salt in a large bowl.
- Add the egg and mix with a fork until the topping is coarsely combined. Spoon the mixture evenly over the apples.
- Pour the melted butter over the crisp and set the crockpot to high. Let cook for 4 hours.
- Serve warm topped with vanilla ice cream.
