Apple mixture ingredients:

  • 8 apples, peeled and cored (I used equal parts Granny Smith and Fuji)
  • ⅓ cup raw or granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon nutmeg
  • Zest and juice of 1 small lemon
  • 1 pinch of kosher salt

Apple crisp oat topping ingredients:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup raw or granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup old-fashioned or whole oats
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon
  • Pinch of kosher salt
  • 1 egg
  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • Vanilla ice cream, for serving

Instructions

Make the apple crisp filling:

  1. Cut the apples into ¼-inch slices. Toss with the sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon and salt and place in the crockpot.

Make the apple crisp oat topping:

  1. Combine the flour, sugar, oats, baking powder, cinnamon and salt in a large bowl.
  2. Add the egg and mix with a fork until the topping is coarsely combined. Spoon the mixture evenly over the apples.
  3. Pour the melted butter over the crisp and set the crockpot to high. Let cook for 4 hours.
  4. Serve warm topped with vanilla ice cream.
