Sparkling + boiling water on tap!? Here’s our review of the Zip Water Hydrotap we added during our kitchen remodel. Is it worth it? Read on to find out!
If you haven’t been following along on social media, we are currently putting the finishing touches on a major kitchen remodel. When I say major – I mean tearing down walls, taking things down to the studs, and completely starting from scratch. It’s been a long two years but now that we are finally using the kitchen it has made it all worth it.
One of the most fun things in our kitchen is our Zip Water HydroTap. The HydroTap dispenses filtered sparkling, boiling, and cold water with just the touch of a button. It sounds like a dream, right?
Here’s a look at how the Zip Water Hydrotap works:

What is the Zip Water HydroTap?
The Zip Water HydroTap is a faucet that dispenses filtered cold, sparkling and boiling water with the touch of a button. According to their website, each HydroTap includes advanced activated carbon water filter technology that performs roughly 25x better than the best water filter pitcher! It comes with a variety of install options including integration with a traditional faucet and also a stand-alone option for your sink or with a designated drain.
Purcell Murray Showroom San Francisco
If you are in the San Francisco Bay Area, Purcell Murray in San Francisco is the mecca for luxury kitchen appliances and design. They carry hard-to-find brands like Hestan, Bertazzoni, and Liebherr. They are also a retailer for Zip Water! We were able to visit the showroom and try the Zip Water before officially choosing it for our home. No matter where you are in your kitchen remodel journey, Purcell Murray is the number one place I recommend to friends and family for kitchen design inspiration.
All-in-One vs Separate Hydro Tap Faucet
The HydroTap system can be installed as a part of a standard kitchen faucet or a separate tap. We chose the separate tap because the HydroTap faucet doesn’t have a sprayer integrated into it. The separate tap mounts over a sink or in a separate location with its own drain. They also have a hands-free faucet, the HydroTap Touch-Free Wave.
The faucets come in an array of finishes to match your existing kitchen hardware – Chrome, Brushed Chrome, Matte Black, Rose Gold, Brushed Gold, Nickel & Brushed Nickel. We chose the HydroTap Arc with a brushed gold finish.
What is Zip Water Installation Like?
Installation of the Zip Water HydroTap is by factory-trained, qualified tradesmen. Our technician was super professional and the installation itself went really quickly. He knew the unit well and had recommendations for ventilation and unit placement. He was able to talk us through features like putting the Zipwater on a schedule. That allowed us to let the unit “sleep” when we aren’t home to use it to save energy. We then chose to have it automatically turn on in the evening so we can enjoy our pre-bedtime tea. At other times of the day, we can activate the unit and it’s ready to go in just a couple of minutes. In just under an hour we were up and running with a fully functioning HydroTap.
Eco-Friendly Alternative to Plastic Bottles
The Zip Water HydroTap is an eco-friendly alternative to using plastic drink bottles. Did you know that less than 10% of plastic used in the United States is actually recycled? If your family switches from plastic bottles to the Hydrotap, that will keep all of that single-use plastic from ending up in landfills or the ocean.
Zip Water HydroTap for Offices and Businesses
The Zip Water HydroTap is the perfect replacement for those outdated water cooler systems! HydroTap office water dispensers are designed to meet the sustainable initiatives of the Living Building Challenge by eliminating prohibited materials shown on the LBC Red List. Their touch-free option is also great given the increased hygiene considerations as offices start to reopen.
Is the Zip Water HydroTap worth it?
One of the things that convinced us to include a Zip Water HydroTap system in our kitchen is the ability to make staying hydrated been easier. Zip Water research shows that 80% of Zip HydroTap owners drink more water than before. We are definitely included in this group!
It has been 100% worth it to have a Zip Water HydroTap in our kitchen. We drink a lot more water at more frequent intervals throughout the day, don’t use as many plastic bottles, and it’s so fun to have for entertaining. It’s definitely a crowd-pleaser!

Hi, love your kitchen! I would love to know which faucet you have next to the Zip tap? It seems to match so well! I’m also thinking of doing a separate Zip tap next to a regular faucet too. Thanks!

It’s the Spring DB from MGS and I agree they match exceptionally well! We got ours from Purcell Murray (they also supply the zip system), but here’s a link to the MGS website https://mgstaps.com/portfolio/spin-db/
