The secret behind this easy DIY is finding the right supplies. I didn’t find elastic that I liked at my local craft store, so I took my search to the internet. I found exactly what I was looking for on Amazon. And dang it was so cheap! I went crazy and bought a yard of each color, which basically left me with a lifetime supply of elastic hair ties.
Once I had a huge pile of hair ties, I realized I needed to share them. I thought they would make the perfect party favor for my birthday celebration and to make them presentable, I cut a stiff piece of white cardboard into 3×5″ rectangles and decorated each with a homemade gem stamp that I had made for another project.

Easy DIY Elastic Hair Ties
Materials
Elastic ribbon (find it here or here)
Ruler or measuring tape
Scissors
Stiff cardboard
Exact-o knife
Rubber stamp (similar here)
Ink pad
Instructions
1. Cut the elastic ribbon into 8 to 10 inch sections, depending on hair thickness. Fold the ribbon in half and tie a knot at the approximated ends. Pull taught.
2. Use a straight edge to cut the cardboard into 3×5″ rectangles. Decorate as desired with rubber stamps. Pro tip: I absolutely love this Martha Stewart alphabet stamping set that lets you create a phrase stamp instead of futzing with individual letter stamps.
3. Slip the hair ties onto your cardboard rectangles and watch as your friends go crazy for this easy and inexpensive gift!

Good choice on the elastic – I think we need to make matching headbands out of it!
