I used to be a low-maintenance skincare sort of gal. It wasn’t until the years of sun exposure from lifeguarding in high school started to catch up to me that I developed an actual skin care routine. I threw the book at my face, so to speak, once I did figure out in my early twenties that I needed to protect my skin.
That may seem early, but I noticed fine lines and signs of premature aging even then. It made me realize that it’s better to prevent aging and care for your skin then to try to reverse it later. Now, my skin routine completely revolves around keeping my skin looking as young and healthy as possible.
Thanks to medical school, my obsession with beauty products, and consults with my own dermatologist, I’ve come a long way and I have skin that I’m proud of.
See the products I swear by to keep minimize fine lines and keep my skin looking fresh after the jump!
Philosophy Purity Facewash: I start every day with this gem from Philosophy. This rich and creamy face wash leaves my skin feeling soft and moisturized. I never new how small my pores could be until I switched to this a few years ago. I’ll never look back.
Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant: I was turned on to Dermalogica’s daily microfoliant at a recent blogging conference and I have to say I was skeptical at first. When I think of exfoliation, I think of harsh products that over-dry skin and end of making me break out more because of overproduction of oil. This product contains enzymes that gently buff away dead skin cells and leave soft, radiant skin underneath. It’s so good that I can get away with skipping foundation when I use it! The product is a little pricey, but it only takes a tiny shake of powder per wash. I use it 2-3 times per week when I wash my hair as a part of my longer shower routine. My morning is usually too hectic to fit it in every day!
Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion: This is one of those Beauty Hall of Famers, up there with Nars Orgasm blush and Tweezerman tweezers. There’s a reason it’s so popular – it leaves my skin moisturized but not greasy and my makeup goes on over it without feeling cakey.
Clinique All About Eyes Rich Eye Cream: If there’s a celebrity that I secretly want to be best friends with, it’s definitely Tina Fey. In her incredible book, Bossypants, she recounts a meeting with Monica Lewinski where she expounds upon the importance of wearing eye cream. It’s true, ever since I started wearing under eye cream a few years ago and I’ve noticed a reduction in the fine lines around my eyes. Thanks, girlfriend.
Clarins UV Plus Protective Day Screen: I don’t wear sunscreen every day, because I spend 10-12 hours per day at the hospital. When I know I need sun protection, I reach for Clarins. Its liquid-to-powder formula is gentle and not greasy.
Peter Thomas Roth Powdered Mineral Sunscreen: I’m not sure how a powder can provide sun protective, but it definitely keeps me from getting sun when I wear it. This genius product allows you to dust on more sunscreen without messing up your makeup. As a bonus it also dries up those shiny oil spots on hot sunny days. I keep a tube in my purse for sun protection on the go.
Tretinoin: Also known as Retin-A, this is a product you’ll have to ask your doctor about, as it is prescription only. You may have used it as a teen for acne, but it’s one of the most effective anti-aging products available. It’s one of the few products that has been clinically proven to reduce wrinkles, and not just in “studies” conducted by beauty brands. I apply it all over my face before bedtime and count it as the single most important product on this list in keeping my skin looking young. It can be drying, so make sure you only apply a pea-sized amount and start with a weaker strength to let your face get used to it. It can also make your skin more sun-sensitive. I tell you, I’ve seen Dermatologists give soliloquies about this stuff.
What face products do you swear by? I’m always looking for recommendations to add to my beauty routine!

Love it! I’m definitely a big fan of Clinique products and I use All About the Eyes too! (To other followers, don’t confuse this with the their Moisture Surge Intense, the bottles look almost identical!)
