Looking for a hotel in Lahaina, Maui? Hyatt Regency Maui has amazing dining options, beautiful grounds, great location and friendly staff.
As soon as we walked into the Hyatt Regency Maui lobby, I knew we were in for a treat. As you walk in, you get a view of the pool and ocean to your right. It’s so beautiful. I literally wanted to drop my suitcase and make a beeline for the pool.
Rooms at Hyatt Regency Maui
Our rooms were spotless and well maintained. My room was very quiet, which is so important. Comfortable bed – check! Tons of space – check!
Amazing room service – check! I had an ocean front room and the view was amazing. I looked out my balcony and all I could see was palm trees and ocean. Talk about the best place to catch sunset in Maui – or have a lazy breakfast:
Japengo Restaurant at Hyatt Regency Maui
One of the main purposes of this trip was a photo update for Hyatt Regency’s signature restaurant, Japengo. Chef Greg Grohowski cooked up a feast for Cynthia and I to photograph and enjoy.
Japengo has some of the freshest sushi I’ve had outside of Japan. They had perfectly seasoned rice and unique fish varieties. I highly recommend checking out their half portions for dishes, which are specially marked on the menu. That way you can try as many of the dishes as possible!
I highly recommend their curry dusted calamari, seafood pancakes, all of their sushi and their seafood udon – plus pretty much everything else we tried.
The indoor and outdoor seating blends seamlessly. No matter where you are in the restaurant you feel like you’re dining al fresco. We never get to eat dinner outside in San Francisco as the nights here are cool year round. Such a treat!
Think about making a reservation as this place is busy every night of the week.
Here are a few of our shots from the photo update:
Offering Food & Travel Photography for Hotels & Restaurants
This is one of my favorite things to do when we travel. We get to eat amazing food (after the camera eats of course!) and have this beautiful work product to show at the end of it. It’s a win-win.
The best part though? Getting to feast after we wrapped our shoot!

Grotto Bar at Hyatt Regency
Not to miss while you’re at Hyatt Regency is Gotto Bar. This cave-like swim up bar was definitely a highlight. Despite loving tropical travel, I try to avoid the sun and worry about skin cancer. I guess that’s the doctor in me. Team hats and sunscreen all the way! I loved being able to grab a cocktail and a snack in the shade while still enjoying the pool. They also have TVs if there’s a sports game you’re hoping to catch. The bartenders are great. I highly recommend one of their boozy slushies on a hot Hawaiian afternoon.
If fun in the sun is more your thing, make sure you check out their poolside menu – especially the mahi mahi burger!
Maui Hyatt Club Lounge is Totally Worth It
Another unique aspect of the Maui Hyatt Regency is their Club Lounge. Lounge membership is included for Hyatt Globalist members (their top-tier loyalty program). For the rest of us you can use Hyatt points or select a Club Access room when you book on their website.
With the time change I was up pretty early every morning. My first stop was the Club Lounge for fresh brewed coffee and breakfast at their substantial buffet. The fruit at Hyatt Regency is some of the best I’ve ever eaten, so I recommend that as your first stop! They also have an assortment of cereals, pastries, yogurt and hot dishes.
There is also afternoon snack time, dinner and dessert available at the lounge. There were lots of healthy food options and a ton of variety.
Here’s a plate I had as a light snack before a later dinner reservation that night:
A membership to the Maui Hyatt Regency club lounge is totally worth it. It is so convenient and can save you a lot of money on food costs during your trip!
Drums of the Pacific Luau Maui
Everyone I talked to said Hyatt Regency’s Drums of the Pacific Luau is one of the best in Hawaii. This was my first luau. I loved watching the traditional dances and learning more about Polynesian culture from the hilarious emcee. All-you-can-eat dinner is included in the entry, so you can feast while you’re entertained.
The buffet is loaded with Polynesian food like macadamia nut crust island fish, Poke, Huli Huli chicken and soba noodles, not to mention the Hyatt’s amazing fresh fruit and a dessert bar! I could seriously live on their papaya if I had to choose one food for the rest of my life.
The ceremony and dancing build until the imu ceremony. Pork is cooked in an underground oven and during the ceremony, Kalua Pua’a roasted pork is served. It was so tender and flavorful!
