Hello hello! It’s been a while since I’ve shared one of these impromptu ‘what I’ve been up to’ posts with you. I suppose there are multiple reasons for that, but the main ones are that I’m still sharing stories from our Cape Town adventure with you.If you’re new around here, you probably think that this is some sort of travel-only blog! Fear not, the travel-related posts are winding down, and we will soon be returning to our regularly-scheduled programming. We just had such an amazing time that I’ve been bursting with stories and photos to share.
The other one is that I’m still in residency, even though it’s not something I talk about much around here. That whole full-time doctor thing means that life outside the blog is filled the brim with sick patients and clinic appointments. Residency is done in June (!!), so I’m also starting to think about what life after residency will look like. I had my first job interview last night!

I had the most amazing meal last weekend while catching up with one of my dear friends from medical school who is also in residency just across the bay in Oakland. Sometimes we joke that we’re in a ‘middle distance relationship’. Oakland is super close to SF, but sometimes it seems like a lifetime away. You either have to take public transportation, or drive and deal with the hassle of traffic and finding parking.
We had brunch at Foreign Cinema, which is a San Francisco institution. Our meal was absolutely gorgeous – I mean, check out that photo above! Because there is literally no parking in the area, I took the meal as an opportunity to try out Luxe Valet (thanks to a super-nice invite from them!), a new on-demand valet service that is available in SF and also a few other large cities across the country. Basically, you tell the app where you are going and they arrange for a valet to meet you at your destination, pick up your car, and then drop it off when you are done with your engagement. It’s so slick and a complete lifesaver in this parking nightmare of a city.
If you follow me on Instagram, you’ll know that I’m actually giving away $200 in Luxe Valet credit and $200 in Open Table giftcards to one lucky person and their friend! Luxe wants to reunite friends who don’t get to see each other enough because of the logistics of getting together. Even if you’re not in San Francisco, you can still enter! Here’s the link.
If you’re curious what else is happening behind-the-scenes here at A Side of Sweet, you should also add me on Snapchat! You’ll find everything from the restaurants I’m checking out, to photography and food styling tutorials, to what it’s really like to ‘get the shot’ at a foodie dinner (do we really stand on chairs?).
