I had a chance to attend the LUNAFEST film festival in San Francisco last week with some girlfriends. LUNAFEST is a traveling film festival that features short films that feature women and are directed by women. The whole purpose is to connect women through film and some of the proceeds benefit a cause near and dear to my heart – Breast Cancer Fund. Breast Cancer Fund is revolutionizing our approach to breast cancer research by targeting prevention and environmental changes instead of curing it once it occurs.
I wasn’t sure what to expect, but the advice I got was to “bring tissues”. I’m not much of a crier, but I was definitely touched by the emotion and the beauty in each of the films. Each explored the relationships between women and the strength of women in a different way. It made me reflect on the female relationships that I have in my life and how I draw my own strength from the friendships that I’ve made here in San Francisco. I am grateful that in such a challenging and demanding job I’m constantly surrounded by women I can call true friends. Bonded by long hours, difficult patients, and the occasional tears I’ve grown so close to all of them. It’s something I’m truly grateful for.
Here’s a sneak peek of the films so you can get a little idea of how amazing the films were! It you’re interested in hosting your own LUNAFEST, you can submit an application here.
LUNAFEST is a traveling film festival and may be headed to a city near you! You can find the tour dates here.

Ahahaha – you guys! No tissues for me, but a lot of that burning ache of emotion in my chest for the happy and the sad moments. Am I the only one that gets that?

I’m so jealous that you were able to attend the festival! I would have loved to go if I lived anywhere near there. The closest one to me is in Baton Rouge, but that’s still several hours away. I love everything that this festival represents. It’s so beautiful!
