If you follow me on Instagram, you probably noticed that I spent the first two weeks of November having a #SanFranciscoStaycation. At work, our vacations come in two week blocks and we have to choose a year in advance when they happen. Pat and I had originally planned to get out of town on a vacation of some capacity, but he actually started a new job the first day of my vacation. Obviously, “Can I have the first five days off of work before I even start?” was probably not the best idea. That meant instead I had some much-needed time at home to catch up on my to do list, explore San Francisco, brunch and generally relax. It was pretty incredible.
Marine Layer is one of my favorite clothing companies. They are based in San Francisco and all of their clothes are made in California. They are one of the few companies that I actually open every email and almost inevitably purchase something. They are definitely focused on creating pieces that are perfect for San Francisco’s weather – lots of layer and lots of casual staples. I get to feel good buying their stuff too, since it’s all made close to home.
I’ve had my eye on parkas for ages, but it took Marine Layer making this gorgeous orange number you see in these photos to finally pull the trigger. The coat is medium weight and lined with the softest flannel material your can possibly imagine – in a fun Aztec print! It’s the perfect San Francisco coat and I’ve been wearing it everywhere – from walks to the beach with Maddie to brunch.
Thanks to Caroline for the photos!

It’s so hard to find functional coats that aren’t black these days, so I love this!! My friends and fam in Vancouver BC would be all over this….going to browse now!! Big time in the shopping mood this week and it’s not even Black Friday! Uh oh!!!
I know! I’ve had packages come every day this week! I’m definitely in trouble. I’m definitely more a “cyber Monday” kind of gal though.
Love the coat! I really need to check out Marine Layer, because I do enjoy local companies. And yay for staycations, guess you got in a lot of “me time.” 🙂
Marine Layer is the best! Staycations are also the best. It was so great to be on my own schedule and work through that To Do list!
This coat is super cute! And I love how you styled it!
Thanks so much Amy!
What a gorgeous coat! I love the color! Can’t wait to check out Marine Layer’s site:)
The orange is so nice isn’t it? Not too bright but such a warm and festive color.
Ooooh, yes! I love Marine Layer! They have great basic white tees, of all things, too. 🙂
You know what, they are always talking about their soft shirts and I feel like that’s the one thing I haven’t purchased yet!
Love this!!! The photos are great! Maybe I should take up photography! Oh wait, it’s just that you’re soooo darling!!!
You’re the best! I can’t believe we got all of these great shots in just a few minutes! Thank you, thank you!
I have been trying to arrange a staycation in SF for soooo long. On one hand sometimes my life can look like one continuous staycation when my work-from-home job is slower, but it’s not the same thing as KNOWING you won’t have any unexpected work obligations crop up out of no where. When I first moved to SF and my business wasn’t quite up and going yet I did so much exploring. Mitch and I keep saying we’re going to start renting an airbnb in a different neighborhood once a month and start exploring again, but we have yet to make that happen. I look forward to reading more about your staycation and hearing about your new discoveries!
=)
An airbnb in every neighborhood!? That’s such a great idea!! I love it and may or may not copy you! I agree, here is definitely a difference between working from home and a true staycation.
I LOVE the idea of renting an airbnb each neighborhood! That’s genius! I may have to copy you on that one!
Feels like such a great casual fall coat – You look so cozy and comfy:)
Thanks Sarah!
Thanks Sarah!
That coat is great — and orange is my fave color. I always walk by the Marine Layer boutique in Hayes Valley… I now know I definitely need to drop in!
You absolutely should! Although I never walk away empty handed!
