August was a month of great eating, as are most of our months here in San Francisco! My Instagram account was full of epic meals that probably made you drool a bit. #sorrynotsorry I would argue that the best way to explore San Francisco is with your stomach.
Here’s what got our attention this month…
The Halal Guys Restaurant, San Francisco
We finally tried Halal Guys! The most fun meal we had this month was probably Halal Guys near Union Square in San Francisco. The fast food place is a favorite of SF foodies and bloggers so our visit was long overdue. Halal Guys does great Middle Eastern food like gyros, falafel and humus. They got their start as street food in New York and I’m so glad they now have a brick and mortar place here in San Francisco for us to enjoy! They also have a location in Berkeley if you’re looking for a fast meal in the East Bay as well.

Big news – I started a new job in July! I’m transitioning from working in a pediatric ICU setting to working full-time in the NICU (intensive care nursery – think sick babies and premies). This month was also about exploring the East Bay food scene, now that Pat and I are both working full-time there.
Izzy’s Steakhouse Oakland
We don’t cook much meat at home, but when we’re out to dinner it’s fun to splurge on a great meat entree. Our dinner at Izzy’s Steakhouse in Oakland was perfect for this – I had the Steak au Poivre (peppered steak) and Pat had salmon. Both totally hit the spot, and so did their veggie side dishes like Izzy’s potatoes and the baked sweet potato. Make sure you save room for dessert!

Hutch Restaurant Oakland
One of the biggest surprises of the month was our incredible meal at Hutch restaurant in Oakland. Hutch has incredible southern food including staples like hush puppies and fried green tomatoes, but also surprises like the pasta dish you see below which was packed with herbs and fresh veggies. They are a must eat if you’re looking for a restaurant in the East Bay.

RT Rotisserie SF, Hayes Valley
RT Rotisserie is the newest venture from the people behind Rich Table (get it, RT?), Sarah and Evan Rich. Their incredible rotisserie chicken is basically breaking the internet. It’s brined in buttermilk, brushed with smoky garlic oil, and seasoned with herbs. Their menu is available for delivery on Caviar and I jumped at the chance to try it! Check out that spread up above. Sooooo, good! If you want to try it for yourself, use my referral link to get $10 off your first two orders.
