A look at Sea Containers London Hotel, Dandelyan Bar and Sea Containers Restaurant. Great locations, chic decor and amazing food and drink!
Our home base for our epic London adventure with Virgin Atlantic was the Sea Containers Hotel (Formerly the Mondrian London Hotel) on the South Bank of the Thames River. It was absolutely awesome – chic modern rooms and a surprisingly amazing food and drink scene.
The room decor was quirky but still comfortable. They are a chic grey and black with splashes of hot pink. I loved the chic accents, like a gold fortune cookie and a pretty throw at the end of the bed.
Our first night, we kicked the trip off with cocktails at Sea Container’s Bar, Dandelyan. I’ve never experienced anything quite like their botanical-inspired cocktails. Every detail is perfectly thought out, from their illustrated menu to the extensive drink list. The bar menu is the brainchild of Ryan Chetiyawardana, who won Cocktail’s World’s Best Bartender 2015. The bar is also beautifully-decorated (like everything in the Mondrian) with a green marble bar and a stunning pink leather couch.
After dinner we headed to Sea Containers restaurant at the hotel. Despite the funny name, the restaurant is beautiful and had amazing food. The design is inspired by transatlantic travel and a mix of American and British accents mixed together.
The food is farm-to-table featuring many local farmers. We started with a great mix of lighter appetizers and small plates and then headed into some seriously delicious meat dishes – oxtail, lamb and steak.
Interestingly, my favorite dish was the shaved mushrooms with pine nuts, Idiazábal cheese and brown butter vinaigrette. It was one of those fairly simple dishes that is just so elegant. Luckily I found the recipe online – I can’t wait to recreate it at home for a dinner party.
The location of Sea Containers Hotel is absolutely perfect for exploring the best of London. It’s close to Borough Market, Tate Modern, Globe Theater, and the Shard. It’s the perfect mix of modern design, amazing food and some of the best cocktails I’ve ever had. Thanks so much to Sea Containers London Hotel for hosting us as a part of our Virgin Atlantic London Adventure!

The way they plate the food is lovely! Was the decor sensory overload though?

I admire the hotel’s taking a chance and using that bright pink. Certainly not something you see often.
