Nob Hill San Francisco Staycation

Nob Hill San Francisco Neighborhood Guide

With moving apartments, busy work schedules and the holidays, Pat and I were definitely (over)due for a vacation! We decided to take advantage of a three day weekend and do a teeny staycation last weekend. We really wanted to check out a neighborhood that we haven’t previously explored. After much deliberation, we decided on Nob Hill.

Nob Hill is one of the fancier neighborhoods in San Francisco and has amazing views. It was the perfect setting for a 24 hour escape from reality. We also made it a priority to leave technology out of our trip. Of course I couldn’t resist taking a few photos, but other than that we were completely disconnected from everything except each other.Hotel Huntington San Francisco Luxury HotelScarlet Huntington Hotel Nob Hill

We started by checking in to the Scarlet Huntington Hotel. The Scarlet is a pretty fancy old hotel that has all the charm of days passed, but with a modern and luxurious twist. The rooms and the lobby are fantastically decorated. Everything is so colorful and ornate. We felt a bit like we had been swept away to another era.

Even better than the decorations though, was the view! Our room was on the corner of the 14th floor and I felt like we could see the entire city! There were the Marina, the Bay and our neighborhood (Potrero Hill) all stretching out before us.San Francisco Hotel with a View - Scarlet Huntington

San Francisco Best Views - Nob Hill

One of my favorite parts of our little Nob Hill getaway was some spa time at the Nob Hill spa. As guests of the Scarlet Huntington, we were able to use the spa for free, which was amazing. We decided to splash out and get a deep tissue couples massage. We’ve never had a massage together and it’s been ages since I’ve had a professional massage. It’s such a luxury, but something that’s definitely worth splurging on occasionally!

Nob Hill Spa - Luxury San Francisco Spa

The Nob Hill spa didn’t disappoint. It was so relaxing, with an infinity pool, a steam room, and a sauna at our disposal the entire time we were staycationing. The couples massage was beyond wonderful – it was so relaxing and I think I left 2 inches taller after getting my muscles all stretched out by my masseuse!Nob Hill Spa - Best San Francisco Spas

I wish I had photos of the inside of the spa – it was so gorgeous and luxurious. To respect the privacy of the other guests though, we only took photos of the outside. You’ll have to check it out for yourself!

Other things that we enjoyed in Nob Hill – great food. For dinner we ate at Sweet Woodruff. Its sister restaurant is the famous Sons and Daughters, but this is a hipper, more low-key joint with a great open air kitchen. Pat had a burger made of grass-fed local beef and I tried the “Hipster Stew”. Everything was delicious, full of locally-sourced ingredients and great if you’re traveling on a budget!

Nob Hill Travel Guide - San Francisco
For breakfast we started with coffee in our room but then decided to venture out to Mymy for breakfast based on the recommendations of the Scarlet Huntington’s concierge. It was so good. The food was definitely calorie-heavy, which is just what we were craving. I had a tartine that was loaded with smoked salmon, an omelette and almost a full avocado. There was just no way to eat it gracefully, so I basically just shoveled it in my mouth. Heaven. Pat had a tex-mex breakfast burrito that was also wonderful. I highly recommend checking it out if you are in need of a brunch place in Nob Hill.

To Do Nob Hill - Grace CathedralA visit to Nob Hill wouldn’t be complete without a visit to Grace Cathedral. Luckily it was literally across the street from the Scarlet Huntington and Nob Hill Spa. It was great to admire it from all vantage points and to check out the lovely residences that surround the square.

24 hours was the perfect amount of time to explore Nob Hill and we headed back to Potrero Hill feeling refreshed and reconnected. The neighborhood has such a different character from ours that it truly felt like we had taken a real getaway out of town. It was just what we needed. Plus, I’m still dreaming of that massage! It will definitely be a place I recommend to visitors and friends that are in need of some pampering!Nob Hill Neighborhood Guide - San Francisco

I’m so glad you enjoyed my neighborhood. I haven’t been to that hotel, but of course, I have enjoyed the views and a service at Grace Cathedral. Did you know they offer yoga there on Tuesday nights with music? I’m trying it for the first time tomorrow and can’t wait. Gorgeous photos by the way. Don’t we live in a beautiful place? 🙂

I do, I try to get up to the roof and take advantage all the time! The other two absolute gems of this neighborhood are Top of the Mark at the very top of the Intercontinental hotel – the 360 degree panoramas of the bay area are breathtaking at sunset with some bubbly. Also, if you go through the Fairmont, they’ve got a beautiful rooftop garden with a fountain that is open to the public and also has amazing views!!! 🙂 Have a great weekend!

I have to admit though I’m being really immature and can’t get over the name of the place ‘nob hill’ I don’t know if it means the same where you guys are though!
