Sleeveless Summer :: Wearing a Romper + Sunhat

I never thought I’d say this, but let’s talk armpits. I mean, I’m a doctor, so talking armpits – or axillae in medical speak – shouldn’t fluster me in the least, right?

Even so, I’m blushing a little right now just typing this. As you can imagine, if I get this awkward just writing about armpits, my actual armpits don’t see the light of day that often! Like many people, I suffer from a variety of armpit ailments, including but not limited too – sensitive skin, razor burn, sweatiness, deodorant streaks on my clothes and armpit stains.

My aversion to underarms means that the weather here in San Francisco is perfect for me – there are very few days out of the year that I can’t get away with covering up with a sweater. That plan falls apart though when we take weekend trips outside of the city (like Big Sur). I knew for the Eatwell Farms Tomato Sauce Canning Party in Dixon that I’d be facing some serious heat.

In order to step up my underarm game, I made the switch to Dove Advanced Care a few weeks ago. I’d heard good things about Dove Advanced Care from friends and I knew it was worth a try. To quote Erin Walsh, top stylist,

To cope with the heat, I chose an outfit that is as close to a swimsuit as possible, without actually being a swimsuit – this awesome shorty-short romper with spaghetti straps. The black was perfect for canning as it hid all the tomato splatters and I added a red belt and sunglasses to give a pop of color.

At the Canning Party, I really put Dove Advanced Care to the test, and I have to say, it passed with flying colors. Even thoughI spent hours stirring tomato sauce in 85 degree plus heat, for once the least sweaty place on my body was my armpits! Everywhere else I had way more than a glow going on – it was a full on sweatfest. Despite that, I was underarm stink free. I also didn’t have any of those annoying white marks on my black romper.

I told Pat when he was taking my photo that I was going to be talking about armpits. Pat, bless him, took this very literally and snapped this photo below when I was adjusting my sunhat. I almost didn’t share it, given that plastering my armpits all over the interwebs is beyond blush-worthy, but can you believe it? There’s more glisten on my face in this photo than there is in my armpit! A picture is worth a thousand words folks! And that is as close to NSFW as we get here at A Side of Sweet.I also have a secret to share. Although I don’t have an accompanying picture of Pat’s armpits for this post (I know you are devastated, right?) he’s actually a Dove Advanced Care convert as well! I don’t care about all those sayings about ‘strong enough for a man,’ the stuff he buys never works well enough. Women’s deodorant is where it’s at! He prefers the relatively neutral smelling Nutrium Moisture Nourished Beauty, but actually doesn’t put up much of a fuss when I hand him my pomegranate-scented Revive stick instead. I think he’s just relieved to not smell completely foul at the end of his hard bike rides.

It’s safe to say that I’ve been converted and that I’m enjoying my newfound confidence in going sleeveless.
