I finished a week of night shifts, which conveniently meant I was post-call on a Friday, leaving me with an almost three day weekend! The luxury!
Pat and I decided to sneak away to one of our favorite spots for a weekend in Big Sur. It’s becoming a regular escape from the city for us. Just 2.5 hours south of San Francisco on Highway 1, I think it’s one of the most beautiful places in the world.
There are tons of hikes to do in Big Sur, but my heart is always drawn to the coast. With the settling fog and majestic cliffs, and white peaks crashing against the shore, it’s a great place to admire the might of nature. We lucked out with a bit of fog and some sun – the best of both worlds. One of my favorite sites in Big Sur is the historic Bixby Bridge. I don’t know what it is, but I’ve become way more appreciative of architecture since we moved to San Francisco. I think it has something to do with my undying devotion to the Golden Gate Bridge.
We also stopped at the lovely Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park. Even though it’s packed with tourists, it’s definitely worth the 5 minute walk to see the waterfall. The view below was previously the view from a house that perched on the cliffs before it was a state park. Can you imagine?
My skin doesn’t see much sunlight these days, so I stayed covered up with my sunhat and sunscreen. I have a new Satya Twena hat that I bought in a Kickstarter campaign that is perfect because it offers SPF protection and keeps its shape nicely when it’s stuffed away in a backpack. I can definitely see myself living in it for all my travels. This outfit that I’m wearing is great for camping because it packs up easily in a backpack, hides dirt and has layers to accommodate a variety of weather. Because it was a short trip, I just packed one set of clothes. Not very fashionable of me, but we were on a camping trip and I had to carry my things with me in a backpack! Needless to say, I was ready for a shower when we got home on Sunday!
Outfit Deets: Hat – Satya Twena // Shirt – Marine Layer // Dress – Thrifted (Similar – on sale!) // Leggings – Solow // Shoes – Bensimon // Watch – Suunto // Belt – Thrifted (Similar) // Sunnies – Ray-ban

Of course! We camped in Los Padres. You turn left on Nacimiento road and before the road takes its first left there is a little trail that you can hike in and pitch a tent anywhere along. Definitely recommend it!

LOVE your outfit. You know I grew up in California (and am in San Francisco now) and I STILL haven’t been to Big Sur!
