Styling tips for a dressing up a sweatshirt

I’ve noticed a shift in my style lately. I’m turning more and more to classic, casual pieces even for occasions I’d normally dress up for. Cozy, neutral classics are my new uniform. I suppose if I had to read something into it, the change is for a couple of reasons.

One, my work schedule has been particularly crazy. I’m working in the pediatric emergency department this month and our shifts begin and end at all sorts of odd hours. Switching from a 6pm to 3am shift to a 7am to 5pm shift makes the days and nights blur together. As if that isn’t enough, every four to five days I work a 24 hour shift. The life of a resident.

I’m definitely craving comfort when I’m not at work.

Wear an Everlane Sweatshirt with jeans and heels

Another reason is the crazy popularity of the minimalist aesthetic. People are paring down their wardrobes and keeping things simple. Although I haven’t taken the leap to overhaul my closet, I feel like I’m getting close. I’m totally inspired by all the people in my life and on the interwebs who have already done so.

I feel like everything I buy from Everlane fits in perfectly with the minimalist aesthetic. One high quality piece from Everlane replaces 10 ho-hum pieces that I’ve moved from apartment to apartment swearing I’ll wear them again. You’ve seen Everlane pieces on A Side of Sweet many times. Remember that blush pink silk blouse? And the pretty watercolor scarf? They are a San Francisco company that focuses on social responsibility and it feels good to support them.Jeans and heels make this Everlane sweatshirt the perfect weekend outfit!Spring Trend Idea - wearing a sweatshirt dressed up!

Everything else in this dressy casual look is something I’ve had for a while. The clutch I’ve had since freshman year of college. The jeans are my favorite pair I’ve been wearing for years. Old classics that I’ll keep around. Tell me, what are some things you’re loving for Spring?

Oh, and I have to give a huge shoutout to Leah Bentley for taking these awesome photos! Leah is a San Francisco Bay Area photographer who is looking for bloggers and models in the area to collaborate with! If you’re looking for someone to help you with outfit photos, I highly recommend reaching out to her!

I’m liking the look. I find that the stuff I used to wear when living in Canada doesn’t “suit” me anymore. California has this awesome laid-back casual vibe and I feel kinda weird dressing up here – which is good because I don’t like wearing fancy things lol.

I’m all about my comfy outfits too and I blame Pixie. Her hair has become my daily accessory haha. I’ve been eyeing Everlane but never made the jump because I always felt like their basics are little pricey but you’re totally right. I rather have 1 good top from them instead of 3 cheap tops. Have you ever checked out Alternative apparel? They’re also an eco conscious company that does amazingly soft shirts.

Ha! Dog hair indeed! Especially with the warmer weather we’ve been having! I could knit a blanket – if I knitted! I haven’t checked out Alternative Apparel but I will!

This look is so adorable! You look amazing and it’s an added bonus that you’re comfy!

This spring I have been snatching up skirts and dresses. Shocker. But really, Old Navy is on a roll with dresses right now.
