This is the final post from our weekend trip to Big Sur. I just want to share with you some things that we enjoy when we’re visiting Big Sur in this mini travel guide! Check out Part 1 (Weekend in Big Sur) and Part 2 (Camping in Big Sur)!
Our focus in Big Sur is always the coast. As two formerly land-locked Wisconsinites, both Pat and I are constantly in awe of and appreciative of the ocean. Can you believe how blue that water is!? Every view was like this vibrant, colorful painting and I absolutely couldn’t get enough. I just wanted to dive right in and float away. Of course, in reality the water is freezing, just like it is for us in San Francisco. Dipping my toes in took any remaining desire for swimming away immediately.
We made a stop in the one horse town of Lucia for some coffee. At $5 a mug, you’re definitely paying for the view! Given the caffeine addicts that we are (headache city if we’re not fully caffeinated by lunchtime), we’ve actually started traveling with Starbucks Via for most of our camping trips. We’ve taken it everywhere from Morocco to India, but I’m surprised every time we drink it how great it is.  One of the highlights of this trip was dinner at the Sushi Bar at Treebones. I cannot recommend this place enough. The fish was beyond fresh, the presentation was beautiful and many of the ingredients were gathered from the on-site garden just a few steps away. Can you believe we had some of the best sushi I’ve had on the West Coast in the middle of nowhere from a dreadlocked chef from Pennsylvania? It was such a fun experience too, as the sushi bar only sits a handful of people and the sushi chef, Sarah Sweeney, prepares everything right in front of you. Oh, and the view wasn’t bad either:  Next time we go, we’re definitely going to make a reservation in advance and check out the famous Nepenthe. So many of you mentioned it when I asked for recs and I’m so excited to check it out!
That’s it for our Big Sur adventure! Please feel free to share any more of your faves below! We’ll definitely be headed back soon and I know there is so much more to see!Â
