If you follow me on Instagram, you know I spent a week in Los Angeles a few weeks ago. It was such a fun trip as LA has an amazing food scene. One of the coolest things I did there was stay in a yurt that I found via Airbnb. I wasn’t quite sure what to expect, but it was an awesome experience! It was so peaceful it was easy to forget that I was actually in the middle of one of the biggest cities in the country! On top of that, it was gorgeously decorated.
I love AirBnB for travel. You can really find something to suit almost any taste. Last year, Pat and I stayed in a treehouse in wine country!
The yurt was located in Silverlake, a neighborhood that was one of my very favorites. It’s a neighborhood that is off the tourist beat and is full of amazing restaurants and great coffee shops. It’s also hipster central.
Sorry for the crappy cell phone photos, but I couldn’t resist sharing this gem!
Here are a few other things from Instagram that I did that I enjoyed while I was in Silverlake:
Intelligentsia Coffee
You may have seen this place in your Instagram feeds. The gorgeous blue and white tile make it one of the most photogenic coffee shops I’ve ever visited. They coffee is also fantastic and they have great indoor and outdoor seating.
Squirl Restaurant
Definitely the best meal I had in LA. They are only open for breakfast and lunch. You really can’t go wrong with anything on the menu, but they are especially famous for their sorrel pesto rice bowl and their brioche toast with housemade ricotta and jam. You need to eat here if you are in LA.
Forage
Another farm-to-table style restaurant that focuses on local produce. You order at the counter and they have a variety of premade dishes as well as some sandwiches and rice bowls. Simple, well-made food and not terribly expensive.
Projection LA
Artist Vincent Lamouroux painted the famous derelict Bates Motel and the surrounding palm trees with(apparently environmentally safe)Â white paint. It’s an art installation that is simple but striking. You can see thousands of Instagrams of the building with the hashtag #ProjectionLA.
Tell me, do you have any Airbnb’s that you’ve stayed at that you recommend?

This yurt looks so cool Kelly!! I have always wanted to stay in one – they have full on yurt resorts near my hometown of Vancouver in Canada! I bet it was an amazing deal too. Airbnb is the bomb, we’re already planning to use it when we’re in France next year. Love all the colors in this post too!! Happy 4th – hope you get some time off to enjoy a little break!

I have to be honest, I didn’t know what a yurt was until seeing this. It looks awesome. I’ve never actually used AirBnb, but I’m totally open to it. Wonderful pictures, Kelly!
