On Turning 30 - Things to think about when you're turning thirty

It’s my birthday today! I’m turning the big three-oh.

Rather than approach this next decade with fear, I’ve just been thinking a lot about getting older. And how getting older will (or should) shape my behavior.

Some random things about turning 30 that have crossed my mind?

Spoiler alert, it’s nothing of any substance.

I’ve been thinking ultra-important things like, how much longer can I have long hair? At some point do my long locks start to be inappropriate? How much longer can I wear my ‘On Fleek’ Sweatshirt before I become that woman that people roll their eyes at? ‘What does she think, that she’s a teenager?” they will whisper amongst themselves.

Can I still wear black leggings in public? Side note, should anyone wear black leggings in public? That’s beside the point though. I have to admit, I wear black leggings on the regular. Now that I’m thirty, do I need to put my bum away and switch to harem pants? Are harem pants too young for me? Oh man.

As you can see, these are all very important thoughts.

Now I know that everything I mentioned above can be brushed away with the argument that everyone should be able to act and dress as they please. And I completely agree with that. But let’s be serious, the truth is that judgements are passed on older people who act younger than their stated age.

What are your thoughts? Are there things that become less appropriate as we get older? Am I just being ridiculous?

Here are some other things I’m loving…

You can now find my recipes on Yummly! And save my recipes to your Yummly recipe box by using the ‘Yum’ button at the bottom of each post!

Happy Happy Birthday! I feel you on the long hair…I’ve slowly gone shorter and shorter each year into my late twenty’s and I’m like, do I have to get a mom-cut soon? The answer is no. Not yet anyways 🙂 And you can ABSOLUTELY wear black leggings in public. Always! Hope you have a wonderful birthday xo Lisa

Happy Birthday Chica!!! I feel like milestone birthdays always make us feel like time is running out…I remember turning 20 and thinking I life was over. HAHAHA. Ridiculous. So I say, keep doing what you are doing and wearing what looks good! I love seeing super trendy cute women who are in their 40’s and 50’s. They are hot and I strive to be that one day!!

Happy Birthday! I started having those types of deep thoughts when I turned 30 (I’m now 31). I think you just feel out what YOU feel comfortable with. Sure there will be styles you won’t want to wear anymore, but if you do and feel comfortable in it just go for it. 30 is the new 25 after all 🙂 Oh and if you’re anything like me, people will still think you’re in your mid to late 20s well into your 30s.

Hi Diana – Hopefully my musings get deeper than wondering about long hair and leggings! 🙂 People definitely guess that I’m younger than I am and I’m hoping to maintain that with sunscreen and eye cream. 😀

Super happy birthday to you, Kelly! Yes, you can have long hair and wear leggings and be whatever you want to be at 30, or at any age. And something not on your list but should be? The fact that Full House is doing a new season and it will be based in San Francisco. Come on! 🙂

Yessss! I wasn’t allowed to watch TV growing up, so this will be my first Full House experience! I may need to try to get my hands on some old Full House reels!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! Haha lots of important factors to consider!! I am already thinking about 30 and I still have 3 more years to go. What’s encouraging is seeing other people in their 30s or olderwho still look and act young (in a good and adventurous way) and then I’m not afraid of aging anymore. Like you! Though you’re not very old yet. I love seeing 60-year olds in great shape and doing vigorous exercise that some of my 20 year-old friends wouldn’t try.

Happy Birthday Kelly! I wish you joy & peace and many more birthdays 🙂 I do think that there are subtle ways to make your wardrobe more sophisticated as you get older. We always have to be careful not to go overboard so as not to look way beyond our actual age. Maybe less leggings and more fitted pants–but not too many trousers 🙂

Man I say wear and do whatever you want for as long as you want. And try not to get too upset when your Mom disagrees with every clothing choice you wear, saying you “still dress like a teenager”. Hey, It’s california style man. Wear ripped jeans all I want, pfth.

Happy belated! Today’s mine! 🙂 But i’m older 🙁 lol
