An exclusive wine tasting at Viansa Sonoma Winery in California Wine Country. Make sure to upgrade to a pavilion tasting and try their wood fired pizzas.Best Wine Tasting Sonoma - Viansa Winery

On our recent wine country weekend, Ally and I stopped at Viansa Sonoma Winery in Sonoma, California for a wine tasting. Always looking for a photo opportunity, we reserved one of their beautiful pavilions overlooking the grape fields in advance.

We knew we were in for a great day, but we really had no idea how fun the tasting experience at Viansa Sonoma is! The day started off with a glass of bubbly in their large tasting room and then we headed to the pavilion.

All of the wines were lined up for us to taste, making quite the impressive site. It was fun to work our way down the line comparing the qualities of the wine. I was surprised by how much I enjoyed their 2013 Reserve Chardonnay. It was buttery and smooth, and not as dry as most chardonnays. Our host Josh did an amazing job of explaining the qualities of each wine and how they are produced.

Part of the pavilion reservation is a platter with charcuterie and local cheeses paired with your tasting. It’s a really impressive selection and could have been a light lunch for us – if we could have resisted trying their pizzas! Best Wine Tasting Sonoma - Viansa Sonoma Winery

In the summer, Viansa hosts live music and a picnic on Saturday afternoons. They also have a pizza & s’mores night on Wednesday evenings. Their pizza oven is also open on Saturdays and Sundays.Best Wine Tasting Sonoma - Viansa WineryBest Wine Tasting Napa Valley Wine Country - Viansa Sonoma Winery

The Viansa Sonoma property is home to 95 acres of protected wetlands. In Fall 2014, they collaborated with local biologists and wildlife experts to restore this habitat. Now, over 500 species of birds have been sighted and as many as 1,000 waterfowl have been counted in a single day. Their commitment to conservation is admirable and made our visit that much more special.Best Wine Tasting Napa Valley Wine Country - Viansa Sonoma Winery

To enjoy their wines, you’ll have to visit Viansa in person or join their wine club as they aren’t available in stores. Luckily, it’s really easy to get to Viansa from San Francisco. It’s about 33 miles from the Golden Gate Bridge. Here’s the info:
