Colorful ombré powdered sugar donuts are an easy way to upgrade store-bought doughnuts. They are perfect for Mother’s Day, a wedding, or a baby shower!

Colorful Ombre Powdered Sugar Donuts DIY - Perfect for a wedding or mother's day! It’s almost Mother’s Day! Need a fun and easy last-minute way to spoil your mama? Treat her to breakfast in bed with these pretty ombré powdered sugar donuts. It only takes a few minutes to upgrade store-bought donuts into something stunning.

This recipe is another collab with my friend Ally. You might remember her from my post on splatter paint Valentine’s cookies. We had a great time putting together some fun and easy colorful dessert recipe that will be perfect for Mother’s Day! They would also be great for a baby shower, a wedding or pretty much any party!

I used purple and pink edible luster dust to make colored powdered sugar for this DIY. It literally took a few seconds to make. Don’t believe me? Check out this video that Ally and I made:

Colorful Ombre Powdered Sugar Donuts DIY - Perfect for a wedding or mother's day!Seriously though, is there anything better than adding edible flowers to things? They make even the most boring of foods more exciting, and adding them to these already pretty donuts makes them just stunning. I usually buy edible flowers at the farmer’s market, but I’ve even seen them at big grocery stores like Safeway and Whole Foods.

  • Method: No bake
  • Cuisine: American
  • Diet: Vegetarian

Ingredients

Scale

  • Edible Luster Dust (I used purple and pink)
  • 1 dozen store-bought (or homemade) powdered sugar donuts
  • Edible flowers
  • 2 cups powdered sugar, plus more as needed
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • Gel food coloring

Instructions

  1. Divide the powdered sugar into three bowls.
  2. In the first bowl, stir in pink luster dust, 1/4 teaspoon at a time, until evenly combined and to the saturation of your choice. Repeat with purple luster dust and the second bowl of powdered sugar. In the third bowl, add both purple and pink luster dust to get a color that is midway between the two colors.
  3. Mix powdered sugar and milk. The mixture should be hard to stir but still flow off of a spoon in a thick column.
  4. Add a small amount of gel food coloring to get the color of your choice.
  5. Spread over the top half of donut.
  6. Top with edible flowers and sprinkles.
