More Wedding Photos – First Look, Part II

I hope you’re not sick of wedding photos yet! I have another batch to share with you today. These are the photos we took after the ceremony. We took the majority of our photos before the ceremony, because we wanted to spend the first moments of married life surrounded by family and friends, not quickly whisked away to take photos. I’m really happy with that decision, but I do love all of these photos of our family and bridal party.

You can see more of our wedding photos by clicking here.

I thrifted the victorian couch on Craigslist for $99! It also became a part of our “wedding lounge” for the reception. Although I got some raised eyebrows when I asked some of the guys to carry this heavy old couch into the grassy area of Olin Park, I am so glad I stuck with my guns on it! The photo of our family looking down on us is definitely a fave.

Wedding :: Dance Party!

Even though we had a very small wedding, with only 35 guests, they still new how to boogie! We had a great dance party to end off a great night. I think two of the most important factors in this were having a great DJ…and an open bar! 🙂  I love these photos and all of the crazy energy they capture!

Photos by the incredible Kinsey and Josh Mhire of Kinsey Mhire Photography.

Wedding :: The Ceremony

Our ceremony was short and sweet. We were married in Olin Park in Madison, WI surrounded by 35 of the people that we hold nearest and dearest.

Both of Pat’s parents walked him down the aisle. Such incredible people that have raised the incredible man that is now my husband.

My lovely bridesmaids were all Pat’s sisters. I told them I wanted them to wear a short blue dress and left the rest up to them. I know weddings can become expensive not just for the bride and groom, but for the wedding party as well and I didn’t want them to spend hundreds of dollars on a dress they would only wear for a day. I thought this way, they could wear something they already had or at least have a shot at getting something they can use again!

Pat made the archway out of fallen trees in a park near our house. He surprised me and carved our initials over our heads. So sweet.

A friend did a reading of a poem that I love by Pablo Neruda:

Sonnet XVII by Pablo Neruda

I don’t love you as if you were the salt-rose, topaz
or arrow of carnations that propagate fire:
I love you as certain dark things are loved,
secretly, between the shadow and the soul.

I love you as the plant that doesn’t bloom and carries
hidden within itself the light of those flowers,
and thanks to your love, darkly in my body
lives the dense fragrance that rises from the earth.

I love you without knowing how, or when, or from where,
I love you simply, without problems or pride:
I love you in this way because I don’t know any other way of loving

but this, in which there is no I or you,
so intimate that your hand upon my chest is my hand,
so intimate that when I fall asleep it is your eyes that close.

A friend got ordained online to marry us. He did a wonderful job and it made the ceremony so much more personal. Pat and I exchanged vows we had written ourselves. Much to my dismay, I was so overwhelmed with emotion that I ugly-cried. In solidarity, Pat did too.Our Wedding Photos - Madison, WI Wedding - Kinsey Mhire PhotographyOur Wedding Photos - Madison, WI Wedding - Kinsey Mhire Photography

Wedding :: Getting Ready

I’ll share more about my hair in a separate post, but here are the photos from getting ready at Mansion Hill Inn in Madison, WI. Pat and I also spent our wedding night there. It is arguably the most romantic and luxurious hotel/inn in Madison. Because it is owned by the same company that Pat worked for in Madison, we got the employee rate! My bridesmaids (my four fabulous sisters-in-law) and I got ready there before the ceremony.

Our Wedding Photos - Getting Ready - Kinsey Mhire Photography

I had the good fortune of having two wonderful ladies get me ready for my big day. I worked with Anna Lutzke of Be Inspired Salon and Erin Helley, a make-up artist for Chanel. I cannot say enough nice things about these two! I felt so amazing and beautiful on my actual wedding, but now looking at the photos I really appreciate the magic that they did in transforming my face and hair.

All wedding photos were done by the fabulous Kinsey and Josh Mhire of Kinsey Mhire Photography and Sincerely, Kinsey.

Pat and I wrote each other love letters to read while we were getting ready. Reading these sweet words from Pat brought the first tears to my eyes of the day but at the same time settled my nerves!

I created these cards and wrote a note for each of my future sisters-in-law that I gave them with a pair of handmade earrings. I wanted something small to give them to say thanks for all of their help setting up and getting me ready. I’m so lucky to marry into a family full of amazing women. Speaking of amazing women, that’s my mother-in-law helping me get into my dress. She was absolutely my rock throughout the wedding preparations. She came to Madison and stayed with us the week leading up to the wedding. She kept me focused and helped out with all the last minute DIY’s that made the wedding so special!Our Wedding Photos - Bridesmaids Thank Yous - Kinsey Mhire PhotographyOur Wedding Photos - Mansion Hill Inn Madison WI - Kinsey Mhire PhotographyOur Wedding Photos - Mansion Hill Inn Madison WI - Kinsey Mhire PhotographyOur Wedding Photos - Mansion Hill Inn Madison WI - Kinsey Mhire PhotographyOur Wedding Photos - Mansion Hill Inn Madison WI - Kinsey Mhire Photography

Wedding :: First Look, Part II

I’m not sure how I came up with the idea for having a swing for our wedding photos. It came to me one day, and when I talked to Pat about it he immediately ran with the idea. The swing that he designed was beyond anything I could have hoped for! I was blown away by how well it all turned out.

All photos our by the fabulous Kinsey and Josh Mhire of Kinsey Mhire Photography and Sincerely, Kinsey. They also did our engagement photos. Check out our other photos here.

Wedding :: First Look, Part I

I’m so excited to finally have the wedding photos organized and ready to share with you! We had the majority of our photos taken before the ceremony. This was important to us because we wanted us to be able to join our guests soon after the ceremony and have time to hang out with everyone before dinner!

We took our ‘first look’ photos at the site of our ceremony – Olin Park in Madison, WI. Olin Park is this beautiful place of lush greenery and towering trees situated right on Lake Monona. There is a pavilion available for rent from the city which was an old barn that has been fixed up for events.

I was about 90 minutes late for our first look – the product of having to set up the entire venue ourselves (no wedding planner or staff on our budget!) and also having six ladies getting hair done and dressed. I think Pat started to sweat a little! Better late than never, right?

Our wedding photos were done by the fabulous Kinsey and Josh Mhire of Kinsey Mhire Photography and Sincerely, Kinsey. They also did our engagement photos. I cannot say enough nice things about the Mhires! It was absolutely wonderful working with them. They are so professional and kind and put us right at ease. They really captured our day and our love in a way that exceeded my wildest expectations!

Expect to see a ridiculous amount of wedding photos over the next few weeks. It was just too hard to narrow things down. Hey, it’s my blog so I’ll share photos if I want to!
