Eatwell Farm Tomato Sauce Canning Party + Canning Essentials

Eatwell Farm Tomato Sauce Canning Party

Pat and I just got back from one my favorite weekends ever. We attended the Eatwell Farm Tomato Sauce Canning Party. I had heard about the party from my friend Kia and I knew we had to attend. It’s really the perfect weekend for Pat and I – cooking, camping and seeing a different part of California!

For just $15, the party includes unlimited organic tomatoes for canning, camping, breakfast and chance to really appreciate where our food comes from. Eatwell Farm is located just west of Sacramento, in Dixon, California. It’s about 90 minutes from San Francisco…. Read More »

Gorgonzola Pear Pita Cracker Bites

Gorgonzola Pear Pita Cracker Bites Appetizer

I just finished up two months of working with kids with cancer. It’s been an extremely intense and emotional time, but overwhelmingly rewarding. I’ve been with families as they hear that the reason that their child just hasn’t been acting right is because he has leukemia and also with families who get the news that the cancer is back and the medicines we have just won’t work for their child. I’ve watched people ring our treatment completion bell and watched the hospital staff’s eyes well with tears of joy at the moment. I’ve heard that no matter how many times you hear the bell ring, it’s nearly impossible to not be overcome with emotion. And truthfully, I’ve loved every minute. It’s such a privilege to care for a child with cancer – and their families…. Read More »

Camping in Big Sur + Camping Curry

VegetarianVegan

Meals for camping - Easy camping curryThis is the second post from our weekend trip to Big Sur. Check out Part 1 (Weekend in Big Sur)!

There are a ton of places to camp in Big Sur, but many of them fill up far in advance, especially during the summer. Pat and I avoid this by camping on national forest land in Los Padres National Forest, south of Big Sur. Did you know that it’s legal to camp almost anywhere on national forest land, even it’s unmarked? The rules are
that you must camp at least one mile from designated campgrounds, at least 100 feet from streams, and at least 150 feet from roads…. Read More »

A Weekend in Big Sur, California

A Weekend in Big Sur - Julia Pfeiffer Burns State ParkI finished a week of night shifts, which conveniently meant I was post-call on a Friday, leaving me with an almost three day weekend! The luxury!

Pat and I decided to sneak away to one of our favorite spots for a weekend in Big Sur. It’s becoming a regular escape from the city for us. Just 2.5 hours south of San Francisco on Highway 1, I think it’s one of the most beautiful places in the world.A Weekend in Big Sur, California - Bixby Bridge… Read More »

Spicy Sweet Party Mix

Move over chex mix, this sweet and spicy party mix is the new snack mix in town!

Spicy Sweet Party Mix Recipe

Happy Monday everyone! Can you believe we’re already halfway through August? Even though we’re in the thick of fog season here in San Francisco, I still love summer because of the abundance of daylight hours. Currently, I’m working on the cancer wards which means long days filled with intense emotions. It’s nice to still see daylight when I leave the hospital! The sun is definitely helping to keep me from feeling too overwhelmed with the 80 hour work weeks…. Read More »

Five Unique Uses for Mr. Clean Magic Erasers

5 Awesome Uses of Mr. Clean Magic Erasers

I may be the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser‘s biggest fan. No one would ever accuse me of being a neat freak, but I’m not a slob either. I fall more in the middle and my claim is that if I wasn’t working 80 hours a week, cleanliness would be much more of a priority! I think I love Magic Erasers because they make cleaning pretty much anything easier. I’m all for anything that makes keeping our place presentable easier…. Read More »
