Your childhood dreams have come true with this unicorn toast recipe made with easy all natural food dyes made from plants, fruit and spices.Rainbow Unicorn Toast Recipe Made with Natural Food Dyes - perfect for a unicorn party!

So this happened.

If you’re like me, unicorn toast has been blowing up your Instagram feed. It’s everywhere. That being said, most versions are loaded with food coloring and artificial dyes. It takes a lot of dye to get color this vibrant! Don’t get me wrong, I use food colorings all the time. Heck, edible food paint is one of the most popular recipes on A Side of Sweet! Sometimes it’s fun to explore a natural alternative to food dyes though.

All of the colors you see in this post are completely natural. The dyes come from nature, using plants and fruits. It’s pretty cool and makes it extra special if you think about it.

Fall Apple Cream Cheese Rustic Pie

An apple cream cheese rustic pie is the perfect fall recipe. The addition of sweetened cream cheese to the galettes is the perfect match for tart apples.Pretty Rustic Apple Cream Cheese Rustic Pie - the perfect fall tart recipe

This rustic pie, or galette, recipe is actually a companion to another recipe that you may recognize, my mini apple cream cheese galettes. My husband took a bite of these apple cream cheese galettes and looked up at me with a glint in his eye. These are “almost too good” were the first words out of his mouth.

Fresh Herbed Cream Cheese Dip

Gluten FreeVegetarian

An easy make-ahead appetizer recipe for fresh herbed cream cheese dip accompanied by a fancy (but easy!) crudité platter.Easy Make Ahead Appetizer - Fresh Herbed Cream Cheese Dip with a fancy veggie crudite platter!

When I’m planning our annual holiday feast, I always choose the appetizers first. They are so important! Inevitably, I get tied up in the kitchen making 18 things at once and things turn into a stage-5 disaster zone. People start to arrive and I am standing there, slightly sweaty, with all the burners in use and my mixer on full speed. Having appetizers prepped is incredibly helpful in making sure people aren’t standing around awkwardly, wondering whether they should volunteer for dish duty or run for the hills screaming.

Appetizers are also a great way to ensure people congregate where you want them. Despite the disaster situation, I always have a small table of appetizers in the kitchen. I keep them in the kitchen so I don’t get left out of all the fun as I finish making our meal. Our holiday guests can mingle and chat, and there’s less pressure on me as I wrap up the cooking. It’s a win-win!

Chai Cake with Maple Cream Cheese Frosting

Chai Cake Recipe with Maple Cream Cheese Frosting and Maple Whipped Cream!I made this lovely chai cake with maple frosting for my birthday (I told you I make all my own birthday cakes!). Rather than a true birthday party, I hosted more of a girls’ night/gab fest to celebrate entering the last year of my twenties. It was truly more of an excuse for me to hole myself up in the kitchen for two straight days baking and creating to my heart’s content than anything else.Chai Cake Recipe with Maple Cream Cheese Frosting and Maple Whipped Cream!
