Easy tutorial for how to make edible food paint and gold food paint. The paint takes seconds to make and can be used for cookies, cakes, fondant, and more!

How to Make Edible Food Paint and Ideas for How to Use It!Making edible food paint and edible gold paint is easy and there are so many fun things you can do with them! I use them on my baked goods to make them more eye-catching.

You can use edible food paint on anything, but it works best on a flat, light-colored surface that isn’t super porous. Great examples are fondant cakes and cookies with royal icing. You can also paint on chocolate with a slightly different recipe. I’ve included that in the recipe box below.

Splatter Painted French Macarons DIY with Plain Macaron Shells RecipeHello from Cairns, Australia! You know if you follow me on Snapchat that I’m here for a medical conference. Yesterday I presented my research on secondary cancers caused by chemotherapy to a large international audience. It was an honor to have the opportunity but also a little overwhelming. It went well though, and I got a lot of great comments and feedback…. Read More »

10 healthy superbowl recipes for the big gamedayGetting Ready for Game Day

Hey! Just stopping by to share a few of my favorite healthy recipes that will be perfect for game day! Historically football tailgating or watching the Super Bowl at home has meant a ton of unhealthy treats. Bring back the balance to your game day with these healthy appetizers and snacks!

I promise just because they are healthy doesn’t mean you’ll be missing out! Not only are each of these recipes special, but they are also just as healthy as those Super Bowl classics!

Healthy Super Bowl Recipes - Lightened Up Mini Twice Baked Potatoes

My Super Bowl Recipes

1. Lightened Up Mini Twice Baked Potatoes :: these little bites of heaven don’t have any added butter or cream. Instead, they have just a dab of goat cheese and some Greek yogurt!

Healthy Super Bowl Recipes - Lentil Dip with Crackers

2. Healthy Walnut Lentil Pâté :: Adapted from the gorgeous (and ageless) Gwyneth Paltrow and GOOP, this dip is packed with protein and goes great with crackers or fresh vegetables.

Healthier Super Bowl Recipes - Lightened Up White Bean Artichoke Dip

3. Guilt-Free Artichoke and White Bean Dip :: Another recipe that features Greek yogurt instead of heavy cream! Enjoy your artichoke dip without any loss of taste. The added white beans make sure it’s full of healthy protein too.

Healthy Super Bowl Recipes - Sweet Potato Chips

4. Baked Sweet Potato Chips :: Three great options for serving your sweet potato chips – sea salt and sweet vinegar, sea salt and vinegar, or honey cinnamon. Sure to please all of your guests and their cravings!

Healthy Super Bowl Recipes - Pistachio Goat Cheese Stuffed Dates

5. Goat Cheese and Pistachio Stuffed Dates :: You can make these the night before and add the pistachios right before serving. It’s always nice to be able to save some time on the big day. Plus they are absolutely divine! These are one of my favorite appetizers.

Healthier Super Bowl Recipes - Sea Salt and honey popcorn

6. Honey Sea Salt Popcorn :: Homemade popcorn is so much better than the microwave stuff! This recipe is the perfect mix of salty and sweet and much healthier than that butter smothered or caramel versions you usually serve.

Healthy Super Bowl Recipes - Mediterranean Hummus Dip with Feta

7. Mediterranean Layer Dip :: This dip has all of my favorite healthy snacks in one place – hummus, cucumbers, feta, pesto, olives and sun dried tomatoes. It’s easy to make and also can be made ahead of time to save time on the big day.

Healthy Super Bowl Recipes - Spicy Cream Cheese Adobo Dip with Veggies

8. Spicy Cream Cheese Adobo Dip :: Homemade adobo gives this healthy dip a spicy kick! It’s another great way to make sure you eat your veggies on gameday.

Healthier Super Bowl Recipes - Greek Yogurt Apple Dip

9. Greek Yogurt Fruit Dip :: I’ve given you a few ways to eat your veggies, now make sure you eat your fruit too. This healthy fruit dip will allow you to do just that!

Healthier Super Bowl Recipes - Vegan Thumbprint Cookies Filled with Jam

10. Vegan Thumbprint Cookies :: In my original post, I called these “better than bacon cookies”. I stand by that statement! They also use almond flour instead of regular flour so they are gluten free too!

Best Super Bowl Recipes - Millionaire Bars

Aaand for extra credit – Millionaire Bars! You didn’t think I was going to let you out of here without a bit of indulgence did you? A Side of Sweet is all about balance. These amazing bars definitely fit the bill. They feature chocolate, caramel, shortbread and sea salt. Need I say more?

Feast Time

I hope you have an amazing game day! I’m not much of a football fan, but I’ll definitely be snacking on these recipes and checking out the commercials! Do you have any recipes I should check out for Superbowl Sunday?

Top Posts 2014 Recipes & DIYs

2014 has been an amazing year for A Side of Sweet! Traffic around here has more than doubled and I’ve had my recipes pop up everywhere from A Fabulous Fete to the Huffington Post.

Even more important than that though, is the increased engagement and connectedness I feel with the community I’ve built around A Side of Sweet. I’m talking every comment, every email and every hashtag. At the end of the day, that’s why I blog. It’s about a sense of community – and y’all are truly the best darn thing.

People ask how I manage a busy ‘real life’ job with the time commitment that blogging takes. I always give the same answer – it’s so much fun to contribute to this amazing online community and connect with people across the world. I feel like I’m getting energy from blogging instead of expending it. So thank you, and here’s to so much more fun in 2015!

Without further ado, here are the top recipes and DIYs this year:

Best Recipes of 2013

Happy New Year dear readers! Here is a round up of your favorite recipes of 2013.

Sweets won out over savory this year in a big way. One of the things I’m most proud of is that four of the top ten were cupcakes or cakes. Would you believe that three years ago, the only cake I’d ever made came from a box? When I decided to make the dessert table for our wedding this year, I also decided to make our wedding cake! I spent the months leading up to the wedding testing recipes and frosting techniques. Lots of trial and error making the perfect buttercream (still not there yet!), practicing with a palette knife, and trying different piping tips. I’m happy you found a little bit of inspiration here with me.

Luckily there was a little bit of healthy thrown in there too – it’s all about balance, right? Greek yogurt is no longer a trend, but a staple in many of our diets. I love adding it to everything from fruit dip to pasta sauce. I promise that in 2014, Running Blonde will continue to be a place where you can get your sweet tooth fix and find delicious healthy recipes.

See you in 2014!
